Our Cedar Story

Our Story: Crafting Sustainability, One Cedar at a Time

CedarCraft was born out of resilience, resourcefulness, and deep respect for the forests that sustain us. Like many great ventures, it started with a challenge. In the early 2000s, our founders, Glen and Carol, found themselves at a crossroads—out of work and searching for their next chapter. What started as a necessity soon became a passion-driven mission to create high-quality, sustainable wood products while honoring the environment.

The Road to CedarCraft

The idea sparked when Carol noticed a trend: cedar grilling planks were gaining popularity at high-end retailers like Williams-Sonoma. She and Glen saw an opportunity—why not make these products more accessible while ensuring they came from responsible, sustainable sources?

Determined to make it happen, the two embarked on a road trip through the forests of the Pacific Northwest and Canada, knocking on the doors of sawmills to find

the perfect partner. After countless rejections, they found a mill in British Columbia that had previously supplied Williams-Sonoma but had recently lost the contract. It was a perfect match.

This wasn’t just a business deal—it was the beginning of a long-term partnership built on shared values: sustainability, efficiency, and integrity. Together, they developed a way to repurpose leftover wood that would have otherwise gone to

waste, transforming it into premium grilling planks and later, beautifully crafted planters. CedarCraft planters and planks were (and still are) made from high-quality cedar sourced from sustainable forests.

Sustainability at Our Core

At CedarCraft, we believe that great products don’t have to come at the expense of our forests. That’s why we’re committed to:

  • Using Reclaimed Cedar: We source wood from sustainable forests and use remnant pieces that would typically be scrapped or turned into mulch. This reduces waste and gives new life to every part of the tree.
  • North American Craftsmanship: Unlike competitors who mass-produce overseas, our products are crafted in North America, ensuring ethical sourcing, superior quality, and reduced environmental impact.
  • Minimal Waste, Maximum Impact: Every panel, every joint, every plank is designed with care—creating products that are as functional as they are beautiful.

More Than a Business—A Way of Life

Through hard work, persistence, and a little bit of luck, CedarCraft became a trusted name in grilling and gardening. Over the years, we’ve expanded our product line to Pergolas, always staying true to our core belief: that sustainable craftsmanship and exceptional quality go hand in hand.

Our journey hasn’t been without challenges. We’ve faced setbacks, learned from failures, and adapted along the way. But one thing has never changed—our commitment to doing things the right way, not the easy way.

Where We’re Headed

CedarCraft continues to grow, but our mission remains the same: to create sustainable, high-quality products that enhance outdoor living while protecting the forests we love. Whether it's grilling the perfect salmon fillet, growing your own fresh herbs in a beautifully crafted planter or relax the shade after a long day at work under one of our pergolas, we want our customers to experience the joy of nature, responsibly.

We invite you to be part of our story—one built on integrity, sustainability, and the belief that great things come from those who care.
